Small hive beetle larvae in harvest

Post by newbee » Fri Apr 21, 2017 4:03 pm

hi there, recently I had my first harvest of honey. Unfortunately I didn't do my research properly and pressed the combs using a fruit press about 6 days later without having had the honey in the fridge. The pressing went well and I strained the honey through a wire sieve into bottles which I proudly gave out to friends and family. However, I noticed that in the remains of the pressed comb (which I kept in the hope of heating it to make wax products) there are larvae of some sort - I think small hive beetle. I'm assuming I have to through it all out? but mostly I'm worried about the honey I've given away! It certainly looked and tasted ok but if there was any larvae or parts of larvae remaining, could it make someone sick??

Thanks in advance and apologies for my ignorance!

There's a few variables to work through here. It would be easier to answer this over the phone.
